A delicious treat for Ballito Neighbourhood Watch potjie

More than 40 pots of potjie were up for tasting when Ballito Neighbourhood Watch celebrated their 20th anniversary last Saturday.

With loads of fun activities, adults and children alike were able to enjoy the family day at Townsend Park.

Potjie competition recipes ranged from lamb, chicken and oxtail right through to rump steak.

But as with any competition, there can only be one victor.

First place went to Ensure Security, who served up a delicious locally-reared Umhlali pork, whiskey and ginger potjie.

The event was a fundraiser for BNW, a voluntary community organisation which works toward making Ballito a safe place to live.

Money raised goes towards paying regular patrols throughout the area and SNIPR cameras.

BNW chairman Morne Steffens said they hope to install additional security cameras around the town. He hopes the potjie competition can become an annual event.

“All I know is that it was a major success with some already wanting to book spots in the competition for next year,” he said.

“We would like to extend a round of thanks to everyone who supported the event, including sponsors.”
