Zimbali Rotary’s goodwill train rolls on as North Coast charities score

Addressing the plight of orphans and easing the burdens underprivileged school pupils face, the Zimbali Rotary Club continues to come to the rescue of those in need.

This was again evident at the Rotary Club’s induction dinner last Thursday evening, where generous donations were handed over to worthy charity organisations.

Recipients were The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, the Nkosibomvu bursary programme and the BriteEyes campaign.

Funds raised through the Miss Ballito pageant enabled 30 grade 12 pupils to receive bursaries valued at R2 500 each.

These bursaries assist with school fees, transport costs and school uniforms.

The BriteEyes campaign is a cataract surgery camp held at Stanger and Maphumulo in partnership with the iLembe Health Department.

Funding is allocated to cataract surgeries, with the balance covered by iLembe Health. To date, 1 004 cataract surgeries have been performed.

Orphan Fund coordinator, Mpume Vilakazi, said Rotary have always been big supporters of the fund and expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support.

“Rotary’s support over the years has been tremendous, especially this year amid the lockdowns and unrest.”

The Orphan Fund received a cheque of R10 000, which will go a long way towards supporting the organisation’s work among orphans and vulnerable children on the North Coast.
