Learner advancement non-negotiable, says Curro head

Sharing knowledge to inspire young minds is what sparked Curro Mount Richmore’s Head of Academics Prindha Francis’ passion for education.

Teaching might not initially have been her first choice, but boasting a Science degree with Computer Science and Chemistry as her majors, she first tutored at university level and then started teaching Information Technology (IT).

This is what sparked her passion for teaching.

A mother of two, Mrs Francis brought 16 years of experience to Curro Mount Richmore in 2016, teaching IT and Computer Applications Teaching (CAT).

In 2019 she was promoted to Head of Academics.

She says she loves her job and believes in instilling good manners, respect and leadership qualities among learners.

“We have a wonderful team at the high school, a diverse group of individuals all bringing different qualities to the collective.

“I strongly believe there is a solution for everything, and that by listening and being patient we can reach the desired outcomes.

“I also love our learners. They are respectful, happy children,” said Mrs Francis.

While ensuring the academic component at the school runs smoothly, her priorities will soon shift as acting head of high school, responsible for overseeing all sectors such as sport, culture, academics, new learners and staff.

“The high school is growing steadily and I am excited to be part of the growth. Our culture programme has grown incredibly this year, and next year will bring more developments.

Sport, for example, will hopefully return to some kind of normality and our learners will go back to enjoying well-balanced days.”

Mrs Francis, who has both her children enrolled at Curro Mount Richmore, says her main goal is to ensure learners know they are loved and that teachers care for them.

“If our learners feel safe and loved, they will give of their best. We have to invest time and it’s all about mutual respect.”
