Repair of power lines to Salt Rock in progress
Heavy rains prevented technicians from making the repairs last night.
High voltage transmission lines from a substation which feeds parts of Salt Rock and Sheffield blew last night, leaving parts of the ward without electricity.
Teams were sent to assess the issue, however heavy rains last night prevented technicians from making the repairs.
Currently, technicians have not been able to give timeframes as to how long the repair will take, said ward 22 councillor, Privi Makhan.
Affected areas in ward 22:
- Brettenwood
- Parts of Sheffield Beach
- Sheffield Manor
- Sheffield Gardens
- Foxhill
“These HV (high voltage transmission lines) lines are water sensitive.
“At the moment, we do not have a timeframe in mind but there are plans to switch on Tiffany’s shopping centre as well as the New Salt Rock shopping centre, as well as the local school, Curro Mount Richmore.”
Residential areas will remain without power until repairs are complete.
