Storm-stranded Ballito chef found after being reported missing

Leaving his home on Monday with the promise of returning within the hour, a Ballito chef was reported missing when he failed to return home.

Steven Kruger had planned to do some target practice with his air-rifle in a remote area, and left his cell phone at home.

Around the same time that day, a storm warning had been issued along with the warning of heavy rains.

A search followed with local authorities and security companies scouring the area searching for Kruger but he could not be found.

Reaction Unit (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram said Kruger’s family had searched for him throughout the night but when they failed to find him they reached out to RUSA for help.

The area where Kruger was reported to have gone to practice with his air-rifle had become inaccessible due to the previous night’s storm.

“The RUSA helicopter lifted off and after a brief search the pilot and crew spotted Kruger’s car in an opening,” said Balram.

Kruger was waving his arms for assistance, trying to get the attention of the pilot.

After landing on the ground, medical teams saw to treating his injuries.

Kruger’s car had become stuck in mud, and he had tried to lift the front of his car out of it. Through doing so he had injured his back, Balram explained.

He was also treated for dehydration before being flown back to RUSA headquarters.
