Ballito Pro geared to ride out fourth wave, says organisers
All athletes, staff and officials are required to provide proof of full vaccinations, a negative PCR test within 72 hours or a negative antigen test within 48 hours of the event.
A stringent health and safety plan is in place to ensure the Ballito Pro pres. by O’Neill surfing event will not be derailed by a potential fourth wave of Covid-19 infections.
Despite global concerns about the new Omicron variant of the virus, the Ballito Pro has done everything possible to limit the risk to spectators and competitors.
This includes creating contingency plans should any further lockdown restrictions be implemented by December 9.
“In planning for the Ballito Pro, our Covid-19 safety programme has taken into account the potential of a fourth wave, as well as restrictions for higher lockdown levels,” said event organiser, Collette Bundy.
“The safety of festival-goers and competitors is a priority and everything is being done to minimise the risk of transmission. We will constantly monitor the situation and adhere to changing regulations as they arise.”

A safety campaign and vaccination site for the duration of the event will also be in place.
This has been organised in partnership with IPSS Medical, the Thrive Ballito health shop and the Department of Health (DoH).
You can book for a vaccination at Thrive Ballito from 1pm – 5pm on December 9 to 19 at www.wethrive.co.za.
Alternatively, DoH nurses will administer vaccinations at a dedicated Ballito Pro site.
The safety programme will ensure that strict regulations are adhered to, which includes mask wearing, regular sanitising, physical distancing and the prohibition of sharing wetsuits, wax or other items.
