SPCA Dog Box calendar a hit

Both can be obtained at the SPCA Dog Box, one of Ballito's most beloved charity shops, at its new location in Balvista Centre, right in the heart of Ballito Village.

If you are looking for an easy gift and perfect adornment to any kitchen wall, look no further than the SPCA’s Christmas calendar.

It features photos sent in throughout 2021 as part of a competition, showing the best of pets in the Durban and Coast SPCA’s catchment area.

Aside from the cuteness factor, which is off the charts this year, all funds raised from the calendar sales go directly towards the rehabilitation and care of otherwise forgotten animals.

The calendar is on sale for R130, while you can also get a pack of 5 Christmas cards with envelopes for R25.

Both can be obtained at the SPCA Dog Box, one of Ballito’s most beloved charity shops, at its new location in Balvista Centre, right in the heart of Ballito Village.

The 2022 calendar is made up of photos that were selected from a year-long competition this year. It retails for R130, while the Christmas cards sell for R25.

“Many people think we have closed, despite numerous posts to the contrary. I promise we are still very much alive and kicking in a cleaner and better, albeit slightly smaller space, in Balvista Centre,” said store manager, Carol Saunders.

The Dog Box remains one of the best places to find a hidden treasure and you will seldom leave disappointed.

Given the smaller space at the new location, non-fiction books are no longer accepted, but everything else you would have previously donated is still much needed with the busy Christmas period coming up.

Of particular interest for bookworms is that all of the extensive range of fiction books at the Dog Box are sold at a standard price of R20.

“We are always on the lookout for more donations. After an initial period during which donations streamed in, we have noticed a slowdown. Support us with any pre-loved but still usable books, clothing, homeware, trinkets and almost anything else that you think could be sold,” said Saunders.

With non-fiction books now added to the list, the main things the Dog Box will not accept are broken and dirty items, or any forms of pornography.

If you have things you would like to donate but you cannot make it to the store, call 031 579 6500 to organise a home collection,

The Dog Box is open from 10am-2pm on Monday-Friday and 9am-12.30pm on Saturday.
