Dubs Club unites for the love of classic cars

Uniting classic car fanatics is all in a day’s work for the KZN Dubs Club crew, who last weekend gathered for a show and shine at Tiffany’s Shopping Centre.

Meeting up in Durban early on Saturday morning, some 150 cars set off to Salt Rock at 10am.

From tricked and pimped out cars, to sound systems producing the finest audio quality money can buy, the club of Volkswagen enthusiasts pulled out all the stops.

But it was about much more than just fancy sound systems and cars dropped so low their mud flaps almost scrape the surface of the road.

Instead, it was about family and the love of cars,

Etete resident and organiser, Ranesh Mahabeer said the club is not only for one specific type of car.

“We welcome everyone who would like to join. We are passionate about what we do and encourage people to share their love of cars with us,” he said.

Referring specifically to this year’s event, Mahabeer said the turnout was bigger than ever before.

Phoenix resident and 2002 1.4i Citi Golf owner, Pavan Naidoo, said he had invested more than R120 000 into his car.

“It takes passion to restore a car like this,” he said, adding the project took him more than 4 years and he started with the car in stock condition.

Naidoo was not the only one who had poured a ton of cash into his car, with 1998 Jetta VR6 owner, Brent Thompson, admitting he spent more than R250 000 to rework his Jetta into a piece of art.

While the cars may look like they have been built for speed in some cases, this is not so.

Motorists on the day said they treat their cars like art pieces, and a reflections of themselves.
