Ballito Junction mall reports growth despite trying times
Ballito Junction CEO, Geraldine Jorgensen, said more people were relocating from big cities to more relaxed environments such as Ballito, which offers an increasing choice of schools, residential developments and great weather year-round.
A growing and evolving Ballito community, supported by swift, sensible strategies by Ballito Junction stakeholders and tenants, were the main driving forces boosting the centre’s performance during the most challenging times in KZN’s history.
Retailers at Ballito Junction have reported improved turnover, with the centre’s overall turnover over the last year outstripping all 9 shopping centres under the Flanagan & Gerard Property Group.
The Junction is co-owned by investment consortium Menlyn Maine.
With more than 200 stores on 3 shopping levels, the centre has maintained an occupancy rate of more than 99%.
Centre management noted that even restaurants had traded well during the challenging pandemic months.

To keep up with this growing community, Jorgensen said:
“Applying our expertise in the rapidly evolving retail sphere, we have extended our homeware and furniture category, added more layers to popular fashion varieties, buffed up our athleisure selection and enhanced the overall convenience of a visit to the mall.”
Jorgensen noted the retail mix at the Junction also appealed to holidaymakers.
While the centre has had a number of new tenants moving in over the last year, more are set to arrive soon, including Nando’s and Under Armour, while other current tenants have also expanded.
Shopper activity has certainly increased.
“There is a good reason for Ballito Junction growing. It is a great place to live and we have a wonderful community. We value the tremendous support we have received from local consumers.”
