Zululami developers target retirees with new senior living community development

Direct beach access to Christmas Bay and Sheffield Beach through Zululami and Collins Residential's neighbouring Seaton Estate will be a major attractor.

With limited retirement options available on the North Coast, the construction of a new development catering for retirees at Sheffield Beach could draw sizeable investment to the region.

Auria Senior Living CEO Barry Kaganson, Collins Residential Group managing director Geoff Perkins, fellow managing director Murray Collins, Coral Cove’s first property owner Penny Rey, a Ballito local and South Africa’s first Miss World, and Auria Senior Living director, Gavin Muller.

Located within the Zululami luxury coastal estate, the 21-hectare Coral Cove development was unveiled last Thursday, and will offer free-standing garden villas, maisonettes, semi-attached garden villas and apartments in price ranges between R1.69m to R3.36m.

Once completed, the community will have 230 independent living units available.

“Given the growth on the North Coast over the past few years, the provision of lifestyle environments for senior citizens has not been adequately catered for, and Coral Cove is the first to comprehensively address this need in the region,” said parent company Auria Senior Living CEO, Barry Kaganson.

Coral Cove is a R1-billion investment which, he said, strives to give rise to “a senior living community of international standards at the estate”.

Collins Residential director, Murray Collins, with marketing head Melanie Clarkson.

Estate developers, Collins Residential, have welcomed Auria Senior Living’s investment, saying their confidence in entering the KZN market supports the belief that the North Coast presents a valuable investment opportunity in a underserviced market.

Coral Cove will offer assisted living services such as home-based care, dementia care and frail care.

Inspecting the location were Tanya Norton and Kaldora Naidoo.

The development will be based on a life rights model of purchase, meaning new owners will have exclusive use of the property for the remainder of their lives.

It will also offer a number of attractions such as a clubhouse and wellness centre, a restaurant and coffee shop, and even a cinema.

Zululami is in the final stage of development, with only 60 land opportunities left and all civil infrastructure due to be completed by November.

Phase 1 of the development is expected to start in August.
