Joy as small Groutville community gets proper road at R7.4-million

The upgrade is expected to be complete within 6 months

Residents of Ten Acre 2, a small Groutville community, will within months have the luxury of commuting on a proper road for the first time.

This after KwaDukuza mayor Lindi Nhaca presided over a sod-turning ceremony last Thursday, officially launching the upgrade of a key 800-metre stretch of road

Humphrey Mbatha (KwaDukuza chief whip), Thulani Nthuli (KwaDukuza deputy mayor and chair of technical infrastructure), Dolly Govender (KwaDukuza speaker of council), Lindi Nhaca (KwaDukuza mayor), Muzi Sithole (executive director of civil engineering and human settlements) and councillor Privi Makhan (infrastructure and technical portfolio committee member) at the sod-turning ceremony.

The R7.4-million project will entail an asphalt surfaced road, 8 speed humps, sidewalks and the laying of storm water pipes.

The upgrade is expected to be complete within 6 months and will be handled by NAP Holdings, a civil engineering and general building construction company.

Accompanying the mayor to the ceremony was the deputy mayor Thulani Nthuli in his capacity as chairperson of technical infrastructure, council speaker Dolly Govender and chief whip Humphrey Mbatha.

The sod-turning ceremony marks the beginning of construction on an 800-metre road with a contract value of almost R7.4-million.

Members of the infrastructure and technical portfolio committee also attended.

The first phase of the project will create 15 jobs, with workers sourced from the Groutville ward 12 community.
