Head-on collision claims one life and injures 6 on Watson Highway
The jaws of life were used to free the accident victims from the wreckage.
A high speed head-on collision killed one man in his early 30s, and injured 6 more on the Watson Highway last night.
At around 11pm, two small vehicles, carrying 5 and 2 passengers respectively, collided on the highway which connects the N2 to Tongaat.
“It was a chaotic scene when paramedics arrived and 3 passengers in one of the vehicles were trapped,” said Medi Response spokesperson, Paul Herbst.
eThekwini Fire and Rescue, along with paramedics, worked quickly to free the trapped people using the jaws of life, he said.

“Unfortunately, after being removed, one of the passengers in the vehicle went in to cardiac arrest and despite advanced life support resuscitation attempts, succumbed to their injuries,” said Herbst.
The 2 remaining passengers were removed from the vehicle and taken to hospital.
So too were the 2 passengers in the second vehicle.
“Saps were on scene and are investigating the cause of the accident,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick.
The road was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
