Tongaat grief seminar brings closure

Sharon Moodley, who authored a book Riding the storm, shared her heartbreaking story of losing her husband and two sons. She said she considered taking her own life, but then realised she still had purpose.

Close to 130 people attended a recent grief seminar held at the East Gate Family Church in Tongaat.

Hosted by Focus on the Family Africa in partnership with the Tongaat Christian Ministers Forum, the purpose of the seminar was to, among others, provide guidance on how to cope with grief and loss, and how to help children through the grieving process.

“We have received an overwhelming response to our grief seminars. It has been amazing to speak to so many people trapped in grief and misery and being able to help bring clarity and understanding to what they are experiencing,” said Focus on the Family director, Anthea Nagoor.

There was a large turnout at the grief seminar.

Three women shared testimonies of how they managed to avoid paths of despair, instead choosing to bravely rebuild their lives. Sagree Maraj, who has 3 children, told of losing her husband to Covid-19 a year ago. She had to take over his business and has inspired many with her resilience and faith in God.

Makhosi Juqu lost her only child (7) and said Focus on the Family counselling resurrected her “dead soul”.

“I learnt to be patient, think clearly, not be afraid of my thoughts and embrace grief.”
