Mashaba digs in to help in Ballito clean-up operations
Mashaba and his wife Connie, who have a home in Simbithi, both got their hands dirty on Dolphin Crescent where a mud spill had partially blocked the road.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba joined party members to clean up parts of Ballito last Friday.
“I have been a Ballito resident for the past 10 years, so I am really grateful to see this great team of “Actioners” becoming involved to assist their neighbourhood.
“They joined the initiative on Good Friday instead of being home with their families. Connie and I were privileged to be invited to be part of this clean-up project,” Mashaba said.

Commenting on why Ballito was chosen, ActionSA KwaDukuza councillor, Nel Sewraj, said it was crucial that Ballito’s tourism industry was given some reprieve on Easter.
“Ballito is an economic hub in KwaDukuza and a hotspot for tourists during Easter. The water interruption, and in some places electricity, was enough to dampen the spirits of our vacationers.
So, we cleared the mud to at least ease traffic congestion,” said Sewraj.
After touring other parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mashaba said despite the state of emergency, public and private sector collaboration would be crucial in rebuilding efforts.
“The damage in KZN needs the assistance of all South Africans. It needs national intervention from our government and our municipalities. And it needs the collaboration of civil society and government,” he said.
