Feel the rush of doing laser tag battle

Based at Sugar Rush Park, Laser Rush has created the perfect obstacle course in a shady 2 000m² arena filled with trees and broken down buildings.

There are few activities serving equally well as both a birthday party for children and an office teambuilder exercise that will have even the quiet ones throwing caution to the wind.

Laser tag at Laser Rush Ballito does just that. The adrenalin-pumping activity is a memorable outing for anyone who enjoys the thrill of the chase.

I recently visited Laser Rush for my eldest’s 7th birthday party.

Ready, aim, tag!

Booking the event with owner Rachel Janse van Vuuren was a breeze. She and her husband Jan also run the Ballito Ski Park, which is another super fun party place.

Based at Sugar Rush Park, Laser Rush has created the perfect obstacle course in a shady 2 000m² arena filled with trees and broken down buildings.

This sets the scene as players join forces in games such as ‘Capture the Flag’ and adds to the challenge of hitting your target.

Laser Rush staffer Jessica Msweli was a party mom’s dream. She took charge from the get-go, keeping all the children engaged throughout and even learning all their names.

All that was left for me to do was to put out the eats and watch the fun unfold.

The facility has 10 laser guns, but you are not limited to 10 players (20 max). They design the game and rotate guns to ensure all the players have enough game time. We had 12 children (girls and boys) and one dad who was not going to be left out, which worked well.

An optional extra in the party package is a dog tag and bandanna set for each child. I had not been convinced this would be necessary but on the day I was so glad I took this option.

The children loved wearing them and it really amped up the excitement a notch and put them right into character. My boys are still wearing them two weeks later.

Another bonus is the mom’s parking spot, which is right at the venue (guests park at the main Sugar Rush parking), which meant I did not have to carry anything very far.

Daniël Naudé takes careful aim at a player on the rival team.

I imagine a superb bachelor’s party could be had here as well.

Aside from parties, they also welcome walk-ins that play in 30min slots.

But I would phone ahead to ensure one doesn’t arrive while the venue is hired.
