Mental warfare in aid of Orphan Fund

Participants faced two rounds of 18 questions, with some devilish tricks thrown in from Prince's Grant quiz master Jan Nel, ensuring all teams were kept honest.

The inaugural North Coast Courier Orphan Fund quiz night raised both answers and funds from the participating teams.

Nine teams faced off at Mozambik restaurant last Wednesday in a well-supported event benefitting the 13 charities supported by the Orphan Fund.

Rounding out the prizewinners were the ‘Book Club’ team, Tarryn Graham, Jane Armstrong, Jo Wynne, Lesley Naudé, Sian Davidson and sponsor Ralph Schröder.

The ‘I’m sorry, I can’t say this name out loud’ team took home the honours and great prizes, grabbing 32 out of a possible 36 points on the night.

A host of sponsors made sure that the event was a success for the Orphan Fund, with just shy of R15 000 being raised.

Sponsors and organisers of the event – Ralph Schröder (Araujo Attorneys), Brad Hort (Mozambik Ballito), Mpume Vilakazi (North Coast Courier Orphan Fund) and quizmaster Jan Nel.

This was made possible by a R5 000 and prize donation from Araujo Attorneys, a venue and prize donation from Mozambik Ballito and a prize donation from The North Coast Courier.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who turned up for our first quiz night. We hope it will be even bigger and better next year!” said Orphan Fund co-ordinator, Mpume Vilakazi.

The ‘Stuffed Olives’ team – Kate and Ross Thornton-Dibb with Dominique and Jason Baker.

“Thank you as always to our wonderful sponsors as well, who are always willing to help whenever we call on them. It is much appreciated.”
