Stage 2 nighttime loadshedding continues into the weekend

Loadshedding will run into the weekend until Sunday from 5-10pm.

Owing to continued limitations of generating capacity, stage 2 loadshedding will run into the weekend during peak evening hours from 5-10pm.

Eskom on Thursday confirmed sabotage incidents at the Tutuka power station, where a cable had been severed in preparation of returning unit 5 to service. The cable has since been repaired.

Further issues were picked up when station control air pressure dropped, causing unit 5’s turbine systems to lose energy. The control air pipe had been cut with a power tool but repairs have also been made.

“We believe these were deliberate acts of sabotage. Only employees have access and know the security features in the area quite well. Criminal charges have been laid with the police and a forensic team is assisting with the investigation.”

Eskom noted that this was the fifth sabotage attempt since March 2021.

Latest figures indicate that 3 405MW of capacity remains unavailable for planned maintenance, while 15 534MW is unavailable owing to breakdowns.
