Crucial water donations make a difference on the North Coast
On Monday, sponsors of the INC Vida Water Foundation were able to see first hand what their funds achieve, as they had the opportunity of visiting the supplied areas to hand out gifts.
With the second bout of floods tearing through the North Coast, a functional and safe water supply in impoverished areas has never been more pressing.
Since January, Vida Water Ballito has been tackling the issue head-on, keeping pupils and staff at eight local schools and orphanages hydrated.
Every Monday, 25 litres of water are supplied to each location.

Included among the eight schools are two North Coast Courier Orphan Fund supported initiatives, at Siyakhula Crèche in Shaka’s Head and the Nkobongo Resource Centre.
“We really wanted to find a way to support children from vulnerable homes, and supplying them with mineral rich drinking water was a natural fit,” said Vida Water co-owner, Bridget Nicholson.
The floods have exacerbated this need and Nicholson said they continue to seek out other schools to supply, which they will do as soon as road access is possible.

“We think it’s particularly important to give these children re-mineralised water as they may not be getting all of the necessary nutrients. It is not just sterile drinkable water that we supply, but actually something from which the kids will be able draw nourishment,” she said.

“I am grateful for Vida Water’s contribution, ensuring water is one less thing we have to worry about in schools and orphanages that we support,” said Orphan Fund co-ordinator, Mpume Vilakazi.
