Radiant Melissa Landman crowned Miss Ballito 2022

Since the first pageant in 2011, Zimbali Rotary has raised more than R700 000 for charity.

Elegant beauty and cybersecurity student Melissa Landman was crowned Miss Ballito 2022 at last Thursday’s glamorous crowning event at Collisheen Estate.

Twins, Micheline and Chantelle Souchon, were named first and second princesses respectively by the judging panel.

After the crowning, 20-year-old Landman said one of her priorities would now be to serve as an inspiration to all young women in the region.

“As the winner, along with the Souchons, I am excited to work hard with the youth, underprivileged, communities and local businesses,” she said.

Running under the flag of the Rotary Club of Zimbali – the creators of the event in 2011 – Miss Ballito is more than just a beauty pageant but encourages contestants to become ambassadors for the community and make a difference in the lives of others who are less fortunate.

Entertaining guests at the Miss Ballito 2022 crowning evening with her angelic voice was Kristen Murison.

“Pageantry is no longer just about modelling, it is more about becoming involved and uplifting the community,” said Landman.

Outgoing Miss Ballito 2021, Cikizwa Vilakazi, wished her successor well.

Enjoying the moment at the 2022 Miss Ballito crowning evening are last year’s winner Cikizwa Vilakazi and Megan Lane (2021 Miss Ballito second princess).

“Enjoy it and embrace every step. Spread love and kindness at every opportunity that you get and don’t forget that you are a beacon of hope to future generations. I have no doubt you will be an amazing queen,” Vilakazi said.

She said being the 2021 Miss Ballito was a life-changing experience.
