Boxer donation to Orphan Fund helps streamline charity operations

Representatives from the places of safety described the daily struggles they face to survive, also highlighting the many children they care for coming from child-headed homes.

A generous donation of a 481-litre freezer now enables The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund to improve safe storage and distribution of food donations to four North Coast community safety centres the fund supports.

Nkobongo Resource Centre, Safe Haven, and the Siyakhula créches at Groutville and Shaka’s Head care for vulnerable children and orphans and rely heavily on food donations facilitated by the Orphan Fund to provide meals.

Handing over the freezer last Thursday, Boxer Superstores corporate social responsibility manager, Busile Makhanya, said it was a privilege to help equip the Orphan Fund which helps those in need.

“This is something which aligns with our company values,” she said.

Boxer Meat Factory provided a further boost by donating 136kg of chicken for distribution to the safety centres.

Financial manager Estie Willcock said they were proud to partner with the fund. “No society can be healthy unless we take care of each other. Without the good work of charities, society would be an empty shell.”

During the handover, representatives from the places of safety described the daily struggles they face to survive, also highlighting the many children they care for coming from child-headed homes.

Boxer group executive, Ntombi Dludla committed to an ongoing partnership with the Orphan Fund.
