Women’s health collaboration takes centre-stage in Ballito
Dr Mthethwa emphasised the importance of health practitioners working together and learning from one another.
More than 40 health practitioners gathered in Ballito last week to learn from one another across multiple disciplines to strengthen local collaboration in women’s healthcare.
The Women’s Day Health Talk was hosted by Dr Nombuso Mthethwa at her new practice at Regency House.
Eight women in medicine, all experts in their fields, shared the stage and discussed pressing health issues that affect women, from dermatology to physiotherapy and oncology.
Dr Mthethwa has been a beloved figure in the maternity ward at Netcare Alberlito Hospital for the past 14 years, where she worked as an obstetrician and gynaecologist.
However, as of July this year, Netcare no longer offers this service within the hospital.
While she will no longer be delivering babies, Dr Mthethwa has opened her own private practice to continue caring for women’s health needs. Her services include menstrual and hormonal care, contraceptive management, gynaecological checkups, screenings, fertility and early pregnancy support.
She is also skilled in performing minor surgical procedures.
Dr Mthethwa expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended and emphasised the importance of learning from one another.
“We as health practitioners need to know who is who, and work together for the benefit of the women we serve. We may not have a maternity unit in Ballito anymore, but we have many healthcare professionals who offer great healthcare to women in the community,” she said.
