A helping hand for community helpers
The aim was to give back to those who selflessly give of their own time to help those most in need.
De Charmoy Estate at Verulam last Wednesday served as a perfect location for The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund function to show gratitude to staff of 16 non-government organisations (NGOs) caring for the most vulnerable on the North Coast.
Thirty ladies were spoiled on the day, enjoying a healthy breakfast before being pampered with a spa session, yoga and painting classes.
While the aim was to give back to those who selflessly give of their own time to help those most in need, Orphan Fund coordinator Charmaine Premlal said they unknowingly started a cross-collaborative networking initiative.

“The women got to share their various needs and challenges, and how they could support each other for the greater good of the communities they care for,” said Premlal.
She said NGO teams often become stressed and may struggle to effectively carry out their duties, so last week’s wellness day served to revitalise them.
Premlal thanked all the sponsors who ensured the event’s success.
