Christmas makeover for Hilary Drive park

Two local projects demonstrate the community’s commitment to making a positive impact both within their neighborhood and beyond.
Hilary Drive’s long neglected trim park recently received a facelift.
With relatively few public parks around, it is crucial that those available are kept as community utilities.
The trim park had become under-used because of general overgrowth and vagrancy, while the kids play area was all but unusable.

To address the issue, the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW), KwaDukuza Municipality Parks and Gardens, Hilary Drive homeowners and The Handyman joined hands and jumped in to help.
“First, Parks and Gardens were instrumental in trimming back and clearing overgrown bushes and trees,” said BNW chairperson, Morné Steffens.
“Money donated by residents was then put to use by The Handyman, who worked for a fraction of his normal fees.”

The kids’ play equipment was repainted and repaired, while rotten pieces of wood were removed.
Concrete barriers were also installed to prevent cars from entering the park.
“We would like to urge the few residents who use the park as their personal dumping ground for their household refuse to also take pride and not dump in the park.”
The BNW also collected pet food to be donated to Animally Haven.
Steffens thanked Coastals Agri, IPSS Security, Marshall Security and residents for pet food donations and the Ballito Lions for a cash contribution.
