Orphan Fund ticks off a worthy year-end bucket list

A total of 57 buckets laden with holiday provisions were distributed to 13 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and 39 gogos caring for vulnerable children.

In a heartening display of community spirit, The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, in partnership with the Balwin Foundation, brought buckets of Christmas cheer to numerous underprivileged households.

Orphan Fund coordinator Charmaine Premlal said the bucket drive – a grocery collection campaign – provided an opportunity for the public to contribute to a cause that resonates with the spirit of giving.

A non-perishable grocery list was circulated guiding contributors to fill specially designated buckets with essential items.

A total of 57 buckets laden with holiday provisions were distributed to 13 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and 39 gogos caring for vulnerable children.

The community’s generosity extended beyond individual contributions, with a special mention to the Dolphin Coast Striders who pitched in by filling 10 additional buckets.

Premlal expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support received but emphasised that the campaign is far from over.

“As we step into the new year the bucket drive will continue, with the goal of filling 100 buckets to further extend our reach of assistance. To ensure the success of this ongoing campaign, the public is encouraged to inspect the suggested list of items and contribute to the cause,” said Premlal.

The list of groceries needed to fill one bucket: 500g of salt, sugar beans, 1kg of samp, rice and biscuits. 5kg maize meal, 400g peanut butter, 400g jam, two 400g pilchards cans in tomato sauce and soya mince.

“Every contribution brings The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund and Balwin Foundation one step closer to reaching their target and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those less fortunate,” said Premlal.
