iLembe among top three districts on matric pass rate list
The number of bachelor degree passes in KZN increased from 61 856 in 2021 to 69 849 in 2022 and last year to 72 099.
The iLembe district ranked among the top three districts in KwaZulu-Natal with the highest matric pass rate.
KZN MEC Mbali Fraser presented the 2023 results at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (ICC) today.
The Class of 2023 achieved an 86.4% pass rate, with all 12 districts achieving 80% and above.
uMkhanyakude district topped the list with a 90% pass rate, followed closely by Ugu district with 89.5%.
iLembe finished third with an 88.58% pass rate, an impressive 5.49% increase compared to 2022.
Fraser said bachelor passes increased from 61 856 in 2021 to 69 849 in 2022 and last year to 72 099.
Last year’s matrics recorded 43 769 diploma passes but the number of higher certificates passes decreased from 22 560 in 2022 to 20 435 in 2023.
“Those who did not achieve the results they had hoped for must not despair,” said Fraser. “Your success might be slightly delayed, but it’s not denied. The department has a second chance programme that provides support to candidates who want to rewrite subjects.”
