Shakaskraal Boxer Superstore and Mnandi Bakery join Shayamoya man’s mission to fight poverty
"We went through Shayamoya and identified those most at risk and fed them first," - Xolani Malinga
Shayamoya’s Xolani Malinga is trying to find ways to make a difference in his community.
He recently founded the Impande Yesizwe non-profit organisation to do just that and they facilitated their first food donation in Shayamoya last week.
After canvassing shops from the surrounding communities, Malinga was able to put together 40 food parcels for the poor.
The majority of items in the packs were donated by Shakaskraal Boxer Superstore, while Mnandi Bakery provided fresh bread.
“We have been planning this for a while. We went through Shayamoya and identified those most at risk and fed them first,” said Malinga.
“That means the elderly, disabled and child-headed households. But there are many more who need help.”
The packs were handed over to the very grateful recipients in Shayamoya last Friday.
“We are thankful to everyone who donated and are now looking to fundraise for bigger donations in the future,” he said.
“Mnandi Bakery has agreed to provide the space for a future soup kitchen and that is our ultimate goal – we just need help to get there.”
