Vulamehlo Hospice has urgent need for a refrigerator
Co-ordinator Elizabeth Khumalo appeals to the public and businesses for assistance.
Vulamehlo Hospice in Melville has a pressing problem.
The facility that has been providing palliative care to KwaDukuza communities for more than 10 years, needs a refrigerator.
It may not appear to be a major obstacle to overcome, but with no funds available, it is a challenging situation.
When the Hospice’s long-serving refrigerator broke down in November, it significantly impacted operations.
“Patients’ medication and fresh produce for meals are stored in the fridge, so it has now become a struggle. The cooking process especially has become a challenge,” said co-ordinator Elizabeth Khumalo.
“Whereas meals could be prepared in advance and stored safely in the refrigerator, this is no longer possible. Staff have to interrupt their normal duties before mealtimes to ensure freshly prepared food.
A replacement fridge is therefore high on the Hospice’s priority list.
Khumalo appealed to the public or businesses to lend a helping hand. She can be reached at 073 491 5069.
