Women dive into action for breast cancer awareness at Thompson’s Bay

Local women take a dip in support of the ILoveBoobies campaign.

Around 90 women braved an early Saturday morning at Thompson’s Bay to take a dip for breast cancer awareness.

Organised by the ILoveBoobies NPC, the secret social swim was one of five across the country that happened concurrently.

Alongside Ballito, there was a swim at Scottburgh on the South Coast and at Plettenberg Bay, Cape Town and Blouberg Strand in the Western Cape.

Women were invited to join the initiative to raise awareness, as well as to support and celebrate those who have had personal journeys with breast cancer.

It was a ‘by women, for women’ event that matched the ethos of the organisation.

ILoveBoobies estimate that around 47 000 women should be diagnosed with breast cancer in South Africa every year, but that only around 10000 are.

Early detection is crucial for treatment and can be the difference between a healthy life, lifelong discomfort or death.
