KwaDukuza cops walk in support of cancer survivors
Officer Ramrackan courageously shares her cancer journey.
KwaDukuza’s men and women in blue took to the streets last Wednesday to raise awareness about cancer, with a special focus on breast and prostate cancers. KwaDukuza cops walked through town and gathered at the KwaDukuza town hall where they were encouraged to go for regular cancer screening as early detection saves lives.

Among them was cancer survivor, warrant officer Pricella Ramrackan, who offered words of encouragement to those battling cancer and their loved ones. She spoke about her own journey with the illness, explaining how it led her to withdraw from society, especially when she lost her hair after chemotherapy.
“Some women will tell you their beauty is their hair. When my hair fell out, I felt naked and incomplete. I didn’t want to see anyone. Even though my doctor had explained the side effects of chemotherapy, it was still difficult to accept. But when my sister saw me bald, she said, ‘Wow, you look cool,’ which made me feel more comfortable around her.”

Ramrackan emphasised the importance of following medical advice closely. She urged cancer patients to take their medication at the exact time each day and to strictly adhere to their doctors’ orders, warning that skipping medication could slow recovery and reduce its effectiveness.
