#MovieReview: Last in Venom trilogy silly, but fun
The film is watchable and serves up some genuinely funny scenes.
Venom: The Last Dance is a ridiculous movie, but you will probably have a good time watching most of it.
The Last Dance is the third and final instalment in the Venom franchise, which stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock – a man infected with a live alien (Venom) that is using his body as a vessel.
That alien also happens to be a quick-quipping comedian with a dark sense of humour that comes out at the worst times possible.
It is objectively silly, but the franchise has delivered many hilarious moments, the majority of which have come from the relationship between Brock and Venom.
Strange though it may seem from the premise alone, the duo have an odd chemistry that absolutely works, even if the series has seen somewhat diminishing returns.
When The Last Dance focuses on the bickering between Brock and Venom, it remains very watchable and serves up some genuinely funny scenes.
But unfortunately, that is only about a third of the movie and the rest follows boring comic-book plotlines about the study of aliens and interplanetary warfare.
That may have been original in the Marvel heyday, but flatly delivered expository dialogue about world-ending villains is now grating to watch.
Still, The Last Dance has more than enough enjoyable moments to recommend it as a B-movie with a bit of fun.
I would suggest first seeing the previous movies in the franchise because they are better examples of the same tone that The Last Dance has.
If you do not gel with those movies then there is no point watching this one. For the Venom lovers however, The Last Dance is a fittingly-foolish sendoff.
Rated 16 for Language, Violence and Horror.
