Purse strings and power moves for women at finance seminar in Ballito

Breakfast seminar promotes financial freedom for women.

Women deserve a seat at the financial decision-making table.

That was the message at a women-only breakfast seminar held at the Boathouse in Ballito on Thursday. Women were encouraged to achieve financial freedom while still enjoying a fulfilling life.

Under the theme “Purse Strings and Power Moves,” the seminar, spearheaded by Carrick Athena, an organisation that empowers women with the tools to make informed financial decisions, prompted attendees to rethink the tendency of impulsive buying.

Seanagh Fannin, a private wealth manager with Carrick Athena, emphasised the importance of the “50-30-20 rule,” which involves allocating 50% of your income to needs, 30% to wants and 20% to long-term savings.

Annatjie Erasmus, Francisca Naicker, Tracey Armfield and Chez Rohloff.

“You define you. You are the one to take care of your financial future,” said Fannin.

She highlighted that the first step to financial freedom was understanding one’s spending habits, and while financial freedom means not constantly worrying about money, it doesn’t imply making purchases without looking at the price tag.

Tips for achieving financial freedom:

1. Ensure you live within your means to avoid the risk of falling into debt.

2. Consult with an advisor to help you effectively structure your wealth.

3. Engage in conversations about family finances to secure your future.

The seminar also served as a networking session where businesswomen had time to introduce and share details about their businesses with the attendees.
