Update your prepaid meters to avoid being left in the dark
With only six days left, Eskom said there will be no extension to the deadline.

Eskom has warned customers that failure to recode prepaid electricity meters before November 24 will leave them in the dark.
The power utility is transitioning to a Key Revision Number (KRN) as mandated by the Standard Transfer Specification Association (STSA) to ensure the continued functionality of prepaid electricity systems.
Approximately 6.9 million prepaid meters in Eskom-supplied areas are affected.
The updating process is straightforward, with 97% of meters already pre-coded to simplify the process for consumers.
Customers can complete the -do-it-yourself process by purchasing electricity tokens from authorised vendors. They will receive two sets of 20-digit codes to enter into their meters along with their purchase.
Follow these steps:
1. Enter the first 20 digits for the update token and wait for it to accept.
2. Enter the second 20 digits for the update token and wait for it to accept.
3. Enter your 20 digit token to recharge your units as normal.
Customers should make sure that all pre-purchased tokens are loaded into the meter before recoding the meter as these will not work after recoding.
There will be no extension to the deadline and the meter will become inactive after 24 November.
Updates are done at no cost. Customers needing assistance can call Eskom at 0860037566.
