KwaDukuza beaches reopen for bathing after temporary closure

The beaches were closed on Wednesday afternoon because of discoloured water and dangerous conditions.

A temporary ban on bathing at KwaDukuza beaches has been lifted following an improvement in sea conditions.

The closure was instituted on Wednesday afternoon, with KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) officials citing discoloured water and dangerous swimming conditions.

Debris and waste had been washed into the ocean after heavy rains caused local rivers to flood.

KDM lifeguard superintendent, Bongani Xulu, said the situation was monitored daily and that the beaches opened to bathing as soon as it was safe to do so.

Now that normal conditions have returned, residents and visitors can once again enjoy swimming at KwaDukuza’s seven lifeguarded beaches at Zinkwazi Main Beach, Blythedale Main Beach, Tinley Manor Main Beach, Salt Rock Main Beach, Thompson’s Bay, Willard Beach, and Clarke Bay.
