#MandelaDay: New Grade R bathrooms for RA Padayachee

Siza Water and R&B Civils were responsible for the upgrades.

There were big smiles and grateful hearts at RA Padayachee as brand-new Grade R toilets were unveiled last week.

Thanks to Siza Water, in partnership with R&B Civils, the school received vital ablution upgrades for its youngest pupils, as part of this year’s Mandela Day initiatives.

Mandela Day, observed on July 18, honours the 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted to public service. Citizens are encouraged to give 67 minutes to uplift their communities.

School governing body chairperson Mlamuli Ndlela, Siza Water managing director Shyam Misra, school principal Nokulunga Mhlaba and councillor Jetro Banda cutting the ribbon.

Siza Water managing director Shyam Misra said the project was about restoring dignity and supporting early education.

“The condition of the ablution facilities for the little ones really touched our hearts,” said Misra.

“Since 2017, we have invested over R1-million in Mandela Day projects, uplifting schools across the region.”

He said infrastructure like this makes a lasting impact on pupils’ daily lives and helps promote consistent school attendance.

School principal Nokulunga Mhlaba was visibly moved.

“While we still face many challenges, toilets for our Grade R pupils will no longer be one of them,” she said.

This is not the first time Siza Water has supported the school and Mhlaba expressed her hope that the partnership would continue.

“We are deeply grateful. Your kindness gives our children the dignity and care they deserve.”
