Popular Grace Church Light Party shines bright

The annual event is held by local churches as an alternative to Halloween.

Grace Family Church Ballito hosted its annual ‘The Light Party’ on Friday, drawing more than 200 children for an evening of faith-filled fun.

Families enjoyed a vibrant celebration of Jesus through games, inflatables and interactive educational shows. Salt Rock Airsoft and Laser Rush located at Salt Rock Country Club did a great job in providing extra entertainment and adventure.

Children enjoyed an educational performance by Jill Roberts aka the ‘Mad Scientist’.

The highlight of the night was a captivating performance by the ‘Mad Scientist’, delighting both children and adults alike.

‘The Light Party’ is organised by Kids United, which is a collaborative non-profit initiative between several North Coast churches, held every October.

Spin the wheel: Grace Brauteseth and Emily Wilson with Kristie, Marlene and Johan Coetzee.

Charissa Brauteseth, one of the event organisers, said the party was well attended and full of energy.

“It was a beautiful evening of community, joy and a whole lot of sugar fuelled smiles.”

Splat the rat: Michaela McNamara, Azania Mbatha, Libby Maritz, Charné Maritz and Alex Felgar.

Guests indulged in a variety of treats, including pizzas, burgers, candyfloss and sweets, with prizes at every game station. The event offered an alternative to Halloween.

“The aim is to create a safe, positive and joy filled environment for children to experience worship and learn more about Jesus in a fun way,” said Charissa, who noted the event is not a fundraiser, but they donated leftover food and sweets to a local crèche in Amatikulu, which the church also supports.
