“SPAR Gourmet is not just a store; it’s a new chapter in retail,” he said.

The store features a curated range of artisanal breads, patisserie items and chef-prepared meals, alongside a premium butchery, wine emporium, Vida e Caffè, gourmet gifting options and a children’s play area, inspired by Anderson’s wife, Colleen.

Health-focused shoppers will find gluten-free and sugar-free ranges, as well as Boschendal’s specialised products and SPAR’s Signature line.

“This concept will inspire retailers, a premium store that still feels personal. It’s something I could not have imagined as a young man,” said Anderson.

Guests were welcomed with tasting passports, champagne and cocktails and served hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening.

The event was hosted by Miss South Africa 2000 and television personality Jo-Ann Strauss, who kept the audience entertained between speeches, tastings and prizegiving.

Award-winning cookbook author and reality TV chef Neo Nontso and Mkhululi Mabhena.

Anderson closed the evening with a heartfelt thanks to his family.

“All our stores were struggling when we bought them but we turned them into successes. We are not afraid to do things differently. We did this as a family.”
