Eight local schools met at the Breakthrough Centre on March 21, to share their thoughts on Human Rights Day through an Art and Poetry Writing contest.
“We received an overwhelming response from the following local schools: Groutville High, Sizani Combined Primary, Tinley Manor Primary, Radha Roopsingh Primary, Shakaskraal Primary, Shakaskraal Secondary, Nonhlevu Secondary and Shakaskraal S.A. Primary,” said Pastor Trevor Nair, full time manager of Breakthrough Centre.
The goal of the contest was to encourage the children to find their true potential and to voice their opinions in writing, so that they can improve not only their lives, but that of their community as well.
Phindile Phewa, a presenter from Highway Radio and Shavera Sayed, a professional artist were the judges and were extremely impressed with the display of talent among the children.
The day also included a motivational talk and a puppet show, which the children loved.
“Without the principals, staff of local schools, participants, the judges, sponsors and the Breakthrough Centre team, the day would not have been possible and I am grateful for their support and for the opportunity given to the children,” said Nair.
