Looting of foreigners’ shops is unacceptable, pointless and, in fact criminal. This was the message emphasised by Home Affairs minister Malusi Gigiba on Friday when his wife Nomachule Gigaba celebrated her birthday with Groutville High School.
“Even if you steal hundreds of loaves of bread from their shops, it will finish and you will be back in hunger and jobless and possibly you will be in jail,” said Gigaba.
Nomachule donated a floor chessboard to the school and she promised the pupils that if they keep on doing well academically, she would come back next year.
“This is my first donation to a school and I want to do more and you guys must keep on doing well,” said Gigaba.
She also promised to get shelter for the schools’ assembly area to which Ukhozi FM presenter Sipho Mbhatha said he would contribute R5000.
Teacher Nduduzo Ngcobo said the school will use the chessboard to start an annual chess schools’ competition to be named in honour of Nomachule.
“The competition will take place every year around this time of the year, starting this year,” said Ngcobo.
It was Ngcobo who had requested a chessboard for his school.
DJ Happy Girl and gospel artist Thina Zungu entertained the pupils.
