Six children from local schools took part in the Battle of the Giants All Styles Competition at Sun City recently and did not return home empty handed.
Organised by the South African Body of Dance, the tournament took place between April 11 and 13; celebrating its 26th anniversary with over 1000 dancers competing from across the country.
DanceWeb Studios founders, Craig and Mandy Bullock travelled with a team of six talented young dancers, who competed in a variety of events.
In the U16 male world trial circuit event, Ashton pupil Jed Bullock stole the show; winning gold in five of the six events he took part in; out-moving his competition to secure first place in the street dance solo, popping solo, popping duo, street dance crew and solo battle categories, with a hard-fought fourth place in the street dance small group event.
Meanwhile in the U15 age-group, Sihle Gwala dominated in the male amateur street dance event; taking home the silver medal in a category contested by 26 dancers.
Dayna Graham and Zoe and Mia Bullock also achieved great results in the U11 category, with Dayna taking part in her first street dance solo match against 60 others, with sisters Zoe and Mia taking on 30 other pairs in the duo line-ups.
More exciting news came from Caden Calhoun, who placed sixth out of a tightly fought heat of 28 competitors in the male U11 street dance final.
All six children are thrilled with their results and excited to take on their next challenge as the regional championships looms around the corner in August of this year.
