Putting shoes on others’ feet

Ashton International College donates shoes as part of poverty awareness campaign.

Ashton International College spent Friday, April 17 with bare feet as part of an annual campaign to raise awareness about poverty by involving the children in a social responsibility project.

Students took off their shoes and staff abandoned their loafers and stilettos, collecting a total of 1 941 pairs of shoes for children and adults.

Pupils in every grade donated shoes in brand new condition and distributed them between Boys and Girls Town, Nkobongo Resource Centre, Greytown children’s shelter, KwaMama, St Vincent de Paul’s, LIV Village and RA Padayachee, while also filling six black bags for the foreign nationals being sheltered by the Red Cross.

Shoes are something many people take for granted – a mindset staff at Ashton wish to highlight as they educate their students to walk a mile in the shoes of those who can’t afford new shoes.
