Learning about commuity helpers

Umhlali Police, IPSS Medical Rescue and KwaDukuza Fire Department visited Village Kidz and taught them that community helpers are their friends.

The theme at Village Kidz over the last two weeks has been the local Community Helpers for the grade 000 group.

Umhlali Police, IPSS Medical Rescue and KwaDukuza Fire Department came down to the school to educate the pupils about what they do.

With the first demonstration by Umhlali SAPS each child had a chance to play with the sirens, sing their choice of nursery rhymes over the loud speaker and even went for a ride in a real police car.

Three paramedics from IPSS Medical Rescue went far and beyond to explain their day to day activities and specialised equipment, having each child listen to their own heartbeat, get some oxygen from the oxygen tanks and went for a ride in an ambulance.

The KwaDukuza Fire Department brought a full crew to the school, providing much fun and entertainment with their fire hoses for the excited children.

The biggest lesson that all the children learnt over the first week was to not be afraid and that the Community Helpers are your friends and are here to help.

The Village Kidz thanked Lt.Col. Dieter Fittkau and Umhlali SAPS, Paul Herbst and his team at IPSS Medical Rescue, Ash and Jen at the KwaDukuza Fire Department for their passion and patience to educate the children.
