Food for the hungry

Parents and pupils donate to support Nkobongo resource centre.

The Crawford College North Coast community of students and parents donated generously towards the CCNC Community Service Club’s support for the Nkobongo Resource Centre.

This non-profit organization does valuable work by providing an after-school care facility, crèche and homework club to the many needy and disadvantaged children who are heads of households, or in the care of their grandmothers, or ‘gogos’.

While spending time at the centre they are educated about important health and family-planning issues, while being provided a healthy meal.

Teacher at the school, Shelley Chaplin organised this initiative with the help of the ComServe club-members and succeeded in collecting 24 large bags of groceries, which were gratefully received by Ann and Peter Hodson, who are volunteers at the centre.

“Although retired from their careers, they both devote much personal time and effort towards this valuable community centre and the school extends their admiration to them as positive community role-models,” said Chaplin.
