Crawford’s bread winners

Pupils do their bit of community service and supply KwaMama with sandwiches.

The community-service club members of Crawford College North Coast donated money which was used to buy the basic ingredients for pupils to get involved, by making around 150 sandwiches per week throughout the school year.

These were donated to the KwaMama community centre in Shakas Head.

This NGO centre is both a daycare and children’s aftercare facility to the surrounding community on the outskirts of Ballito, which offers children a safe place to eat, rest, learn and play.

Crawford student leader and community-service member Solomon Shabangu is one of the motivators for this project.

He wishes to encourage more students to provide generously in the interests of this successful and sustainable project.

He believes it is the responsibility of every human being to help to enrich the lives of others – even if only by simply making sandwiches.

Crawford is proud to say that it recognises its social responsibility and congratulates its pupils for so happily devoting their time, money and energy to such a worthy cause.

Food is something we take for granted, but to the children at KwaMama it is a much needed and warmly received gift.
