Pupils at Ashton International College have committed themselves to making a difference and undertaken a unique project to help those who need it most.
Under the watchful eye and guidance of teachers Catherine Clewlow and Ragini Thotha – and the brain child of Allison Gunning – a group of dedicated matric girls have lifted the wool from their eyes, learned a new skill and are now knitting up a storm in order to stave away the cold for disadvantaged women and children.
The girls handed over hundreds of teddies in April and then started a new project, knitting more teddies, blankets, beanies, and jerseys for some lucky recipients, which the young do-gooders handed out last week.
The girls went with their precious cargo to Stanger Hospital, where their finished items were distributed as they visited the maternity, pre-natal and children’s wards and blessed some mothers with their handmade gifts, with love threaded into every stitch.
A hoard of white bags filled with more woolen goodies was also donated by Lisa Opperman of New Beginnings, who is an Ashton parent.
