Victoria Primary swept the board with two firsts and one second in the Billy Nair Circuit Primary Schools Reading Festival.
The cluster level of the Primary Schools Reading Festival 2015 was held at the Tongaat Education Centre on August 19. The host school, Victoria Primary which was selected to host the competition on behalf of the Phoenix Education Centre was impressed by the high standards set by all participating schools.
Special guest, Vigie Padayachee, encouraged pupils to read widely and join the local library. Victoria Primary adopted the theme ‘Spring into Reading and Let the Mind Blossom’, with various topical displays set up for pupils and teachers to peruse.
Convenor of the festival, Rina Naicker was excited to see the event turn into such a success.
“The purpose of the festival is to encourage and motivate learners to read, by dramatizing extracts from books. It was exciting to see how schools brought to life many of the classics, like the ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’,” said Naicker.
