Teachers and pupils at Harry Bodasing Primary School are taking a step forward in bringing about a change and playing a part in conserving our water.
Shane Hanuman, together with the Soul Buddyz, came up with an awareness campaign called “Amanzi Awethu, Sebenzisa Kahle” which means ‘our water, use it wisely’. The aim of the campaign is to educate children about the importance of water and how to conserve it.
Various stakeholders were invited to the school to talk to pupils and give them motivation and encouragement to change the situation.
As convener of the programme, Shane Hanuman has ensured that the aim of the initiative has met its outcome.
“It was certainly a fun day for the learners as well as an informative one. I have noticed that learners at schools waste a lot of water when they use their hands to drink. Ninety percent of the water falls to the ground,” said Hanuman, who added that pupils should instead use a cup or juice bottle to drink.
“I believe the major problem is not that people are getting too little water; but that they still do not know about the intelligent use of water. This shows that our future is under a great threat because of our sloppiness,” he said.
