Ashton College continues to be actively involved in creating awareness about the plight of our rhinos.
Five pupils joined their teacher, Liezl Joosten at the World Youth Rhino Summit two years ago, and were privileged to meet the legendary Dr Ian Player.
Before that, three years ago, Kinglsey Holgate visited the school and challenged Ashton, among other schools in the metro areas to participate in the Rhino Art campaign to raise awareness about rhino poaching.
The school also hosted a successful fundraising evening for the Rhino Fund with popular music group ‘The Bats’. The evening was coordinated by form four pupil Byron Latham, with assistance from Micah from Project Rhino and Kingsley Holgate, who arranged for a life-size rhino to be placed on the Ashton sports field.
The school was also privileged to have the ‘Declaration’ at Ashton recently, collecting over 1000 signatures from parents and pupils in the fight against poaching.
This declaration will go to Vietnam at the end of November, where the World Youth Summit is to be held.
