Ashton sport is getting bigger and better

Clearing the ground for the full size astro turf has begun

Ashton International College’s sporting year got off to an exciting start, when the Senior College first cricket team played their first fixture against Grantleigh on the new turf pitch.

Phase one of the construction and development of the Sports Campus on the land opposite the school along the M4 started a year ago. The two full size rugby fields and turf pitch, as well as additional parking, was completed in November.

“The additional parking has alleviated the major congestion at the main entrance to the campus, and the students have easy access to the campus through the underpass,” said Ashton executive head, Joe Erasmus.

Senior College head of sport, Anthony Denissen said they had a fantastic cricket game over the weekend.

“It was a phenomenal experience to play on the cricket oval on Saturday, and Ashton’s first team won their game by seven wickets. Christopher Turner made 54 runs and the captain, Wian Pretorius had a great innings with 94 not out,” said Denissen.

The most exciting news however, is that clearing of ground for the full size astro turf has started. At the same time the construction of the new multi-purpose hall will begin, which will cater for indoor hockey and action netball.
