Hannah sets SPAR-kling example

Raising R36k for a good cause by running the Two Oceans Marathon earns Hannah Schwegmann Superstar status.

ST ANNE’S Grade 10 learner Hannah Schwegmann was awarded R7 500 by SPAR as she was named one of the SPAR School Superstars.

Hannah participated in the Two Oceans 21km race, for which she raised R36 000 for the Miles for the Mandisa bursary fund at her school.

The fund was started in honour of one of the first girls of colour to attend the school in 1981. It is a bursary fund for the deserving girls of the community that the school serves.

Hannah said that she decided to run to raise funds as she was inspired by her father who loves running.

“So, I asked my father about what sport I could do and he inspired me to run. He also placed me on a training programme so that I could be ready on the day. I am really happy that this is going towards a fund at my school for other deserving girls,” said Hannah.

Advertising and sponsorship manager for SPAR KZN, Nozipho Mkhize, said the SPAR School Superstars programme helps learners be better citizens in society.

“The education of young women and children are at the forefront of what we do. We want to create better citizens in the community and do more to inspire others. This helps us to support each other in a positive way. We want to make a difference and inspire those in the communities that we trade in,” said Mkhize
