Ashton 1st teams look to shine on national stage

Ashton's top rugby, hockey and netball teams will travel the country during the holidays and Easter weekend to compete in the best schools' sports festivals.

Ashton International College Ballito’s sports first teams will be competing at major festivals across the country during the upcoming holiday season.

Ashton College’s rugby, hockey (boys and girls) and netball 1st teams will all be in action over the next month.

Hoërskool Waterkloof 2025 Netball Festival | Pretoria | Date: March 28 – April 1

On Thursday, the school’s 1st Team Netball departed for the highveld to play in Hoërskool Waterkloof‘s annual netball festival in Pretoria.

The tournament will host 120 teams from across the country to compete for the title of best netball team in South Africa.

Ashton’s girls’ 1st team is one of 120 schools that will participate at Hoërskool Waterkloof‘s annual netball festival in Pretoria.

2025 Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament | Cape Town | Date: April 2-5

Both boys’ and girls’ first hockey teams will showcase their skills at the 2025 Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament in Cape Town’s southern suburbs.

Last week, Ashton’s boys won the Crawford La Lucia Hockey Tournament, going undefeated to take home the gold medal against Curro Hillcrest in the final. The girls’ 1st Team also made the final of the Crawford tournament, but they lost to Curro Hillcrest in their final.

The Belgotex tournament is the largest co-ed hockey tournament in the southern hemisphere and will feature 96 teams (48 boys’ and 48 girls’ sides) from three countries and more than 1 700 players.

Ashton will be looking to bring home more gold medals from the 2025 Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament at the Western Province Cricket Club.

Matches will be shown live on SuperSport Schools and livestreamed by ES Media.

The official opening ceremony will take place at the Western Province Cricket Club, from 4-7pm on April 1.

St Dunstan’s Co-Ed Easter Sports Festival | Johannesburg | Date: April 17-21

Ashton’s 1st Team Rugby and Invitational Netball Team will represent the Ballito school at the exciting St Dunstan’s co-ed Easter Sports Festival in Gauteng.

Players from Ashton’s three major sports codes received their new tracksuits.

1st Team tracksuits for all major sports codes

This year marks an historic first for Ashton College – the introduction of 1st Team tracksuits for players from all major codes (rugby, netball and hockey), designed and provided by Puma ZA and generously sponsored by Zimbali Lakes.

Ashton’s head of digital media, Bronwyn Bath, said for the next three years, these exclusive tracksuits will be earned by players who play five or more matches for the school’s respective 1st teams.

The tracksuits will be awarded to players who represent the school’s 1st teams in five or more matches.

“A heartfelt thank you to Wayne Krambeck and the team at Zimbali Lakes for their incredible support,” she said. “We look forward to building a long and successful partnership between our two premium community brands.

“We’d also like to extend a special thank you to OneStream Software for their generous sponsorship of warm-up shirts, long-sleeve warm-ups, and travel bags for our 1st Team boys’ hockey players – your support is deeply appreciated.”
